Project Description: The Strawberry Creek Restoration Program will continue its revegetation efforts along Strawberry Creek and within its watershed. This will include removal of invasive, non-native species and the planting of native species grown in the Strawberry Creek Native Plant Nursery.
Goals: Record the amount of invasive species removed, the number of native plants grown and planted, and the areas revegetated. Continue to partner with student leaders, campus classes, and volunteers. Host restoration events for the creek. Prevent biodiversity loss within the Strawberry Creek watershed. Educate the campus about Strawberry Creek’s many historical and current roles, including drinking water and irrigation source, sanitary sewer, storm drain, outdoor laboratory, aesthetic amenity.
Accomplishments
This project was combined with 2010 TGIF project Cal Habitat Restoration Student Leadership Training. The accomplishments of these two projects included:
- The removal of invasive plants, such as Algerian ivy, Periwinkle, and Aristotelia chilensis from campus natural areas.
- The reintroduction of native plant seedlings in areas of invasive species removal.
- Leading the Strawberry Creek Restoration Program DeCal, managing volunteer restoration days along Strawberry Creek.
- Managing the TGIF funded Native Plant Nursery and Demonstration Garden.
