Max-R Bins
Project Leads: Lin King, Amaia Schultz, Emily McKeon
Sponsor: Campus Recycling and Refuse Services
TGIF Grant: $28,600
Project Theme: Waste Reduction
Project Description: This project will implement new Max-R centralized collection bins for landfill, mixed paper, bottles and cans, and compost, in large student use buildings. The addition of the new units in highly trafficked student buildings will help familiarize students with proper incentives to divert their wastes.
Project Goals:
- Provide students with more opportunities to recycle and compost on campus.
- Encourage waste diversion by providing the proper standardized bin infrastructure with clear signage on the centralized public collection bins.
- Increase student awareness of the four different waste streams and proper recycling and composting practices.
- Increase the amount of overall campus waste diverted from the landfill, to help achieve the University’s Zero Waste by 2020 goal.
