Project Theme: Education, Outreach, and Behavior Change

2022 Application Submission

Project Description:

The ASUC Eco-Office is comprised of 7 departments, including Pour out Pepsi, UC Green New Deal, Environmental Education, Environmental Justice Campaigns, Eco-Community Development, Social Media & Graphics, and Legislative Affairs. These departments are headed by undergraduate students, or directors, who each spend 5-7 hours a week leading their department team. The Heads of Staff also work closely with the Senator to manage the logistical operations behind the departments including recruitment, communication, meeting plannings, and more.

Goals of Project:

Funding will compensate the department directors for their work. According to the Eco-Office, some main projects that department directors are undertaking are: researching alternatives to Pepsi for the University’s multi-million-dollar pouring rights contact, pushing the university to abolish the co-generation plant in favor of full electrification of campus, coalition-building with other UCs to push for a UC-wide Green New Deal, collaborating with unions to support underpaid workers, hosting two Environmental Justice: Applied events for the campus community, working on Indigenous sovereignty, collaborating with a coalition of activists from other UCs to demand the Regents divest from occupying and building the Thirty Meter Telescope on Mauna Kea in Hawaii, to re-launching an eco-community mentorship program, putting on wellness-related events, and passing legislation in the ASUC relating to environmental justice and sustainability issues, among many other projects.
