Project Sponsor: Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS)
TGIF Grant: $2,000
Project Theme: Transportation
Project Description: The UC Berkeley Energy Office, WattTime, and CITRIS will collaborate to pilot a new method of reducing the carbon emissions due to electricity use by neighborhood electric vehicles (NEVs).
Project Goals:
- Install hardware to monitor and control the electricity usage of neighborhood electric vehicles (NEVs) owned by the UC Berkeley Energy Office.
- Reduce the carbon footprint of the electricity used by NEV charging by shifting charging to cleaner times using WattTime software.
- Track and report carbon emission reductions over time.
- Demonstrate the feasibility of a student-founded, research-driven nonprofit.
