Recycling on Campus Tennis Courts

Project Description

Funding will allow for the purchase of recycling bins for 21 campus tennis courts and the implementation of education, outreach, and donation programs for recycling and reuse of tennis equipment.

EcoMovie Nights

Project Description

This grant will fund a monthly environmental documentary series that engages, educates, and inspires the Cal community to get involved with environmental campaigns. Films will be selected based on a monthly theme and followed by theme-centered discussion, facilitated by experts or related student groups.

SCEC Retention Events

Project Description

The SCEC Retention Events will provide direct resources related to self-care and professional development for our members through student-led workshops and guest presentations. Examples of potential projects include BIPOC Environmental Mixers where BIPOC students and faculty have space to form a community with people of shared interests, while also focusing on intersectionality and resource sharing. Blake Garden ADA Path with Native Plant Garden and Viewshed

Project Description

Blake Garden is currently building an ADA accessible path connecting the event lawn to a new handicap-accessible bathroom in the education center in hopes to expand equal opportunities for environmental education and direct experiences with nature. UC Berkeley landscape design students will use the TGIF funding to purchase native plants to plant a native and drought tolerant habitat around the path.

Biofuels Technology R&D

Project Description

Started in 2015, Biofuels Technology Club (BTC) is a student-run organization whose mission is to engineer a pilot processing plant that will repurpose waste cooking oil produced by Cal Dining facilities into biodiesel for use as a cleaner alternative fuel for campus vehicles.

PlateUp: Reducing Single-Use Plastic Takeout Waste

Project Description

The proposed project consists of surveying, identifying, and assisting (10) pilot restaurants in their transition from single-use plastic takeout boxes to compostables and/or reusables.

SURG Redwood Restoration

Project Description

The overall goals of the project are to research Bay Area redwoods using Geospatial information systems and Traditional Ecological Knowledge. This research will focus on analyzing redwood environmental growth factors and forest management practices in order to determine the best locations for future redwood growth in the Bay Area. However, this research project is more than just its overall goals, it is also meant to be an introductory research experience for 14 students, some of which have not yet had the opportunity to take part in Berkeley research....

Clark Kerr Restoration Project

Project Description

The goal of this project is to restore a small habitat of the Clark Kerr campus, replacing invasive non-native species with California native plants that support pollinators, and increasing the safety of the adjacent walkway.

Compost Project for Native & Indigenous Garden

Project Description

The Indigenous Community Learning Garden (ICLG) highly values interacting with land in a sustainable and reciprocal manner. The compost hub project supports the production of culturally significant food crops and addresses sustainability dynamics relating to food sovereignty. In addition, the project serves to address other goals dealing with social, financial, and environmental aspects at the intersection of food and the environment.
