UC Berkeley COP 27 Delegation

Project Description

We propose to bring a cohort of 10 students and 2 staff or faculty members to participate in the COP 27 as representatives of UC Berkeley. SERC would like to give an opportunity to those actively working at the intersections of race, identity, class, ability, and the environment, and will support students who may not have had opportunities to participate in a once-in-a-lifetime global conference for free (prioritization will be for low-income students, students of color, and other marginalized and underrepresented students).

UC Berkeley Green Labs Program Research Community Trainings

FoodWare at Haas

Project Description

Catered events at UC Berkeley lead to unnecessary waste and carbon emissions from disposable packaging. Approximately 100-1000 single-use items are discarded at each event. After connecting with the sustainability team at the Haas School of Business and realizing the school shares the same sentiment, we are taking action and launching a pilot in cooperation with Haas with the hope of expanding to the rest of campus. Climate Break II

Project Description

CLEE created Climate Break as a means to discuss climate change with a wider audience in a different way than the typical focus on the inevitable negative impacts coming our way. The Biofuels Technology Club (BTC) is a College of Chemistry club, whose committed mission is to achieve a zero-waste campus. By making biodiesel from waste cooking oil in the campus dining halls, the club has the goal of eventually powering campus fleets. Project Description

This project is to revamp the ReUSE store, allowing us to achieve our 4 main goals for next semester: 1) Doubling our charity impact to $3000 and saving at least 1000 pounds of clothing and material waste. 2) Growing our volunteer base and community from 50 to 120 general volunteers. 3) Revitalizing our ReUSE material stations across campus and successfully dispersing materials from storage. 4) Tripling our daily store foot traffic and social media outreach and engagement, specifically on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.

ASUC Eco-Office Director Stipends

Project Description

The ASUC Eco-Office is comprised of 7 departments, including Pour out Pepsi, UC Green New Deal, Environmental Education, Environmental Justice Campaigns, Eco-Community Development, Social Media & Graphics, and Legislative Affairs. Each is headed by directors who coordinate and organize their respective departments. The overall goals of the project are to research Bay Area redwoods using Geospatial information systems and Traditional Ecological Knowledge. This research will focus on analyzing redwood environmental growth factors and forest management practices in order to determine the best locations for future redwood growth in the Bay Area.
