Social Impacts of Development on Treasure Island/Below the Bridge Documentary

Project Description

We want to make a documentary on the transformation of Treasure Island from a historical sacrifice zone to a site of intense development and gentrification. We are interested in the impacts that the development plan will have on current residents of the island, as well as businesses and organizations located there. We recognize that this case is likely one of environmental injustice, as the low-income, underserved, predominantly African-American and Latinx communities are going to be the first to face the repercussions of this gentrification. Free Little Library

Project Description

The Free Little Library which will be installed at Clark Kerr Campus where adults and children alike come to walk their dogs or sit and enjoy the sun, hopes to bridge the gap left behind by the closing of public libraries.

Campus Sustainability Photos and Video for UC Berkeley's Public Affairs Digital Gallery

Project Description

The primary objective of this project is to create and make available photographs and video clips of campus sustainability initiatives, actions, and features that can be publicly accessed through UC Berkeley's Digital Gallery, launched by the Office of Public Affairs.

Trash to Treasure

Project Description

Grant funding is requested to collaborate with ReUSE in the creation of a DIY Book aimed at reducing waste. The book would provide creative ideas for reusing materials and be publicized to students.

Multi-Family Housing Sustainability Retrofit Documentation

Project Description

Grant funding will be used to hire a student to produce supplementary video and still photography documentation of the City of Berkeley Climate Coalition Multi-Family Working Group's (MFWG) pilot multi-family housing energy retrofit program. The video and photo documentation of the process will be edited and compiled into an efficient but thorough step-by-step instructional tool for multi-family home retrofits- many UC Berkeley students live in multi-family homes in the city of Berkeley.

BSFC Culinary Cultures Education Project

Project Description

This project aims to bridge the cultural disconnect in the BSFC's food prep service by hiring a Culinary Cultures Education Associate to do outreach work. The food prep system diverts food that would otherwise be wasted into cooked meals that are offered on a sliding scale of $1-5. Through this project, the BSFC hopes to help students understand the cultural history of their food and avoid perpetuating the white capitalist nature of our food system. Campus Water Sustainability Research and Opportunities Map

Project Description

The goal of this project is to maintain the energy and engagement of the Land Use Working Group (LUWG) as a representative campus and community body, effectively incorporate LUWG recommendations into the Long Range Development Plan (LRDP) process, improve the process of LRDP outreach and review to be more transparent and inclusive, and institutionalize the LUWG recommendations so that they will be implemented in future LRDP processes as well.

The Team Editorial Program at the Leaflet

Project Description

The Team Editorial Program at The Leaflet was founded to increase environmental discourse on the UC Berkeley campus. By expanding the content reach, operational capacity, and professional development efforts of The Leaflet, one of the only environmental publications in the UC system, the Team Editorial Program allows the publication to increase environmental education, storytelling, and conversation at UC Berkeley.

Campus land use decisions are structured through campus planning documents, namely the Landscape Master Plan and the Long Range Development Plan (LRDP).
