Sustainable Water Infrastructure Campus Tours

Project Description

Grant funding is requested to create a book and online tour with new material about sustainable water infrastructure on campus, innovative design features that treat and/or detain runoff, and campus ecological restoration projects that maintain creek water quality as well as provide habitat for native plants and animals on campus.

Strawberry Creek Water Quality Probe

Project Description

This grant will be supplemented by funding from EH&S and allow the Strawberry Creek Restoration Team to purchase a water quality probe that will assist with sediment and erosion research along Strawberry Creek.

Social Impacts of Development on Treasure Island/Below the Bridge Documentary

Project Description

We want to make a documentary on the transformation of Treasure Island from a historical sacrifice zone to a site of intense development and gentrification. We are interested in the impacts that the development plan will have on current residents of the island, as well as businesses and organizations located there. We recognize that this case is likely one of environmental injustice, as the low-income, underserved, predominantly African-American and Latinx communities are going to be the first to face the repercussions of this gentrification. The Free Little Library which will be installed at Clark Kerr Campus where adults and children alike come to walk their dogs or sit and enjoy the sun, hopes to bridge the gap left behind by the closing of public libraries.

Multi-Family Housing Sustainability Retrofit Documentation

Project Description

Grant funding will be used to hire a student to produce supplementary video and still photography documentation of the City of Berkeley Climate Coalition Multi-Family Working Group's (MFWG) pilot multi-family housing energy retrofit program. The video and photo documentation of the process will be edited and compiled into an efficient but thorough step-by-step instructional tool for multi-family home retrofits- many UC Berkeley students live in multi-family homes in the city of Berkeley.

Composting at Blake Garden

Project Description

Grant funding is requested to purchase materials for building compost bins at Blake Garden to mix compost on-site (reduction in transport emissions and increase in reuse of green waste) and prevent worker injuries.

Closed-Loop Mechanical Recycling of PLA Filament in UC Berkeley 3D Printing Labs

Project Description

This is an extension of a past TGIF funded project that recycled plastic filament from failed 3D printing projects on campus. This grant would help use this recycling technique to create a completely closed-loop system for recycling 3D printing plastics throughout campus. Money will go towards final materials necessary to complete the project.
