2026 Fall Mini-Grant Application 

Steps to Apply

Open the Mini Grant Application Overview Doc and familiarize yourself with all of the required information and attachments.

Prepare your application materials, taking into consideration that if your project impacts the physical environment of UC Berkeley, involves campus leadership, or otherwise requires campus approval, you may need to coordinate with campus personnel to obtain the necessary Project Approval Forms

Submit a TGIF mini-grant application via Google Form by the application deadline - Friday, October 16, 2026, at 11:59 PM PST. 

Failure to submit all required attachments, obtain the necessary Project Approval, or meet with the TGIF Team during an info-session or 1:1 may disqualify your application from consideration. 

Mini-Grant Application Materials

1.  Mini-Grant Application Overview

This file contains all of the required questions from the Google Form, as well as links to all the other required application materials. Please complete all sections, paying attention to the Sponsoring Organization/Fiscal Agent Information, as that may require additional time and coordination. 

2.  Project Narrative (Template: Google, PDF)

 This required project attachment tells the story of your application, and provides information about your project's history, timeline, and how you plan to measure success. Please stay within the 3-page limit and follow our formatting guidelines. You may submit using the PDF template with text boxes, or submit a re-formatted version using the Google Doc template. Please note that all italicized text can be deleted, however all questions must remain in your final submission. 

3.  Project Budget (Template)

 This required project attachment shows how you plan to spend your funds through the duration of your project. Please note that Budget Categories (personnel, equipment, travel, etc) are incredibly important to making future budget changes. Additionally, if this project is seeking other external funding, or has other sources of funding that make the project viable, please include those funding details in your budget.  Please review the Instructions tab for more information and submit the budget as a PDF. 

4.  Project Approval Form (Template: Google, PDF)

 A Project Approval Form is needed for each partner organization, department, or entity that will be a meaningful contributor to your project team, as well as for each entity that will need to provide approval for your project to be successful. Approximately 70% of TGIF Projects require at least one Project Approval Form. 

5.  Environmental Justice Supplement (Template: Google, PDF)

 TGIF offers review priority to projects that meaningfully integrate environmental justice into their project scope. If you would like to apply for Environmental Justice consideration, you must complete the Environmental Justice Supplement. Projects that submit an Environmental Justice Supplement may be designated as an 'EJ Project' and are provided priority consideration after review by the TGIF Committee Environmental Justice At-Large Representative, in consultation with the SERC Environmental Justice Team and TGIF staff.

Mini-Grant Application Example and Support

TGIF offers our Funded Project Archive, which can provide guidance and support for applicants as to what kind of projects TGIF has funded in the past, as well as archival project applications. Please note that the TGIF Application has changed through the years, as have the needs of our campus community around sustainability and environmental justice.
