Project Description
The ASUC Eco-Office is comprised of 7 departments, including Pour out Pepsi, UC Green New Deal, Environmental Education, Environmental Justice Campaigns, Eco-Community Development, Social Media & Graphics, and Legislative Affairs. Each are headed by directors who coordinate and organize their respective departments. The directors are all undergraduate students who are passionate about sustainability and environmental justice and have chosen to lead the projects that they are working on. The Head of Staff position is adjacent to the director positions as they work closely with the Senator to manage the logistical operations behind the departments including recruitment, communication, meeting plannings, etc. More than 2/3 of the department directors identify as BIPOC and more than half of them have outside jobs or commitments. This grant hopes to compensate department directors for the time, energy, and labor that they put into their departments. Compensation is an essential aspect of any and all environmental justice work and hopefully this grant will prevent burnout in our senior staff and alleviate the detrimental effects that unpaid labor has on students.
