Project Description

The Berkeley Food Institute is an interdisciplinary research, education, and policy institute that works with communities on and off campus to advance a just and sustainable food and farm system. Our project, “Sustainable Food and Farming Systems Education Mentorship Project,” develops a replicable mentorship program supporting undergraduate and graduate students studying sustainable food and farming systems, providing wraparound support and targeted activities resulting in increased success rates for advancing professional and academic goals. Providing coaching tools and guidance on people management and leadership experience advances student-led goals for our diverse student populations. Additional hands-on learning gained from workshops and visits to community-based organizations and farms working in sustainability and regenerative/organic agriculture offers community-building and educational opportunities. We hope to model and expand participant access and scale programming, thus, we will better prepare the next generation of food and farming systems leaders.
